On May 18th we will be taking part in Burgess Park’s May Fair, an annual celebration of Burgess Park and the rich and unique history of the surrounding area.
This year the park is traveling back in time to the industrial revolution, capturing the spirit of the 19th Century and the transformation of this area from market garden villages to a manufacturing focal point.
At Art in the Park we will be running a collection of workshops and activities in and around the studio.
- Ceramic Brick Making with Decorative Victorian Elements
- Silk Screen Printing on Bags
- “Flow” Temporary Sculpture Trail
Elsewhere around the park you’ll be able to find:
- Heritage photography trail around the park
- Victorian games and costumes for children with 1st Place Nursery
- Vauxhall City Farm – mobile farm
- Dogs Trust micro-chipping and dog activities
- Stalls by local community groups: Walworth Society, Peckham Vision, Cambridge House and more
For more details about the May Fair and what else is going on around the park visit Friends of Burgess Park.
We’ve recently been working with Southwark Pensioner’s Centre on their wonderful new Roots Project. Last year we had some older artists from the Roots in the studio painting some pictures inspired by herbs and natural remedies.
See some more lovely works of art and find out more about The Roots at www.therootsstory.co.uk.
A sneak peek at some of the maquettes for our willow weaving project…. More (finished and bigger!) animals coming soon!
Don’t forget, William Hudson’s pumpkin carving workshop is taking place at Art in the Park on Saturday October 27th. It’s a drop in workshop so there’s no need to book, just turn up when you like (with your own pumpkin)! Take a look and get inspired by some of the spooky creations made last year!
New life drawing classes are starting this Friday at Art in the Park. Taught by the talented Simon Veis, these drop-in classes run from 7pm – 9pm every Friday evening. With varied models and a variety of poses from 2 hours to 1 minute this is a great general class.
